And Now For Something Completely Different…
Friday, Arcade Fire and Spoon will rock the roof off Merriweather Post Pavilion. It will be one of the best concerts of the year. If you can’t make it (and even if you can) I recommend watching the live web cast of Arcade Fire’s Madison Square Garden concert Thursday night on YouTube. Why? Because Terry Gilliam, of Monty Python fame, will be fuckin’ directing it, dude.
Arcade Fire’s headman Win Butler talks about how they got Gilliam to do the gig in this Pfork interview. Some of the morsels include how Butler is a BIG fan of Brazil. It blew his mind at 15. Terry Gilliam in turn loves their new album and saw Arcade Fire in Brixton with Heath Ledger. Terry talks turkey about Brazil in this bizarre interview which is total “Gilliam”…
Win also talks about working on a short film with director Spike Jonze, which will accompany the release of The Suburbs.
I think filmmakers all secretly wanna be musicians and all musicians secretly wanna be filmmakers. -Win Butler
Win, I concur. Making a film is just like orchestrating music. The Vincent Moon experimental/documentary film Miroir Noir that accompanied last album Neon Bible must have been a pleasant experience.
Tickets for Friday night’s Merriweather show are tight on this one but you can still get lawn seats at least.
Spoon played Jimmy Fallon and teamed up with the Roots to put on this killer version of “Nobody Gets Me But You”
They’re opening for Arcade Fire. Hot damn this is going to be good.
